Artist statement
Alexey Bogolepov is an artist currently living and working in Saint Petersburg, Russia. His work comprises architectural photography, sculpture, video and installation in a broad exploration of modernism both in the post-Soviet states and worldwide. Specifically, he examines ex-communist reality as an environment still configured according to the principles of a discipline known as Theory of Organization - a late child of modernism, derived in part from the American cybernetic line of thinking (from F.W. Taylor to N. Wiener), and in part from works by Alexander Bogdanov and the Soviet technocratic tradition. He is interested in making analytic art that produces political commentary by indicating cases of planning practices and systemic vision in this regional context.
