About the art
Artist statement
As fire season approaches in my bush surrounds, I am aware and alert about the dangers, preparation and management of fire. But I also want to question what we think we know. I have also been reading about Indigenous practices of fire and land management and I want to know more. It seems that we need to take on a new perspective, that we need to reshape our thinking and be prepared to see things in a new way. This inspired some reshaping of the initial images I photographed. What patterns can we see and learn from? What new information can we glean and what can we learn from 'old' information that others hold? We need greater depth and for me, that is where the beauty lies. So I reshape and remake what I have with my old photographic practices and find something else that I still believe is beautiful, but requires different eyes and an open heart.
