Artist statement
The creation of this series was developed in response to a number of years going through the prodding, procedures and personal intrusions involved in the IVF process.
This process left me feeling fractured and hollow, always questioning if I was faulty or incomplete. Myself and my partner created a photographic exhibition that described these feelings and experiences that we saw reflected back to us in nature. For me, there was a darkness that loomed over that time. I felt drawn to the wilting organic matter, as life that understood the deep murky place of grief. Despite the darkness I see this series as holding the light of hope - that the leaves show how to keep living, even after shattering experiences. They keep reminding me to seek light. Although the leaf is in decline and decay, it holds so much delicacy and beauty. The delicacy and fragility is the beauty. That's a good lesson for us all as humans perhaps.
