Artist statement
Taking a closer look at the natural environment around me has long been an occupation of mine. This feels even more important to me now, as we notice the dramatic effect that less human activity had on the earth during Covid. Perhaps the earth needs a break from us, or at least for us to look upon it with renewed appreciation. The one thing people were allowed to do was to exercise outside, the necessity of such experience being recognised as fundamental to our existence. These tiles are a way of looking repeatedly at the detail of the natural world, almost like a mantra - to connect to the natural life force at work. They describe my world.
