Artist statement
This black and white photo of a tulip titled "The Virgin" is named so in contrast with her sister, the Seductress. She is quiet, shy yet resolute. This image was created by merging many images together. Each photo was taken with my Nikon D850, with a different focal point, a technique called Photo Stacking. This technique involves taking photos at different focal lengths in order to capture all the beautiful detail that simply cannot be captured with one shot. Once the desired images have been chosen, they are carefully combined into one, at which point the image is painstakingly edited to achieve the desired finished artwork.
Amy Ouderkirk’s floral portraits are striking studies of beauty and form. Through measured composition and dramatic lighting, Amy brings her subjects to life with a sense of powerful elegance. Naming the majority of her floral portraits after women, her style is unique in her ethereal, detailed, yet minimalist capture. One can clearly see when viewing her subjects that the works of Georgia O'Keeffe, Ansel Adams and Mapplethorpe have all influenced her style of work.
This is a limited edition of 10, the size is 37" x 50" (94cm x 127cm) and it is printed on Moab Entrada Hot Press Brite Matt 100% cotton paper.
