Andromeda

Quadro astratto informale, facente parte della "Collezione Spazio". Nella mitologia greca, Andromeda è la figlia di Cefeo e di Cassiopea la quale si vantava che sua figlia era piu bella delle Nereidi, le ninfe-figlie del dio del mare Nereo che spesso accompagna Poseidone. Per questa sua arroganza, Poseidone, fratello di Zeus e dio del mare, ha deciso di punirla. Così ha mandato un mostro marino per distruggere la zona intorno al regno. Cefeo per far cessare la maledizione del mostro doveva sacrificare sua figlia, legandola ad una roccia sulla costa, cosi che potesse essere divorata dal mostro marino stesso. Ma arrivò Perseo con il cavallo alato Pegaso e uccise il mostro e liberò Andromeda.

In Greek mythology, Andromeda is the daughter of Cepheus and Cassiopeia who boasted that her daughter was more beautiful than the Nereids, the nymph-daughters of the sea god Nereus who often accompanies Poseidon. For this arrogance, Poseidon, brother of Zeus and god of the sea, decided to punish her. So he sent a sea monster to destroy the area around the kingdom. To end the monster's curse, Cepheus had to sacrifice his daughter, tying her to a rock on the coast, so that she could be devoured by the sea monster itself. But Perseus arrived with the winged horse Pegasus and killed the monster and freed Andromeda.
