About the art
Artist statement
This work is inspired by geometric forms of graphic gestures in black on white. The brushstroke has to be in a single movement and must be precise because it does not allow for correction. Based on Japanese calligraphy, I wanted to bring to the medium-large format canvas a one-flight brushstroke and try to make the composition and the result lead me to follow in a clean and minimalist work - less is more. And then I balanced the composition with other smaller strokes and circular figures and in the end I felt that a touch of colour was missing and the yellow came to me to be incorporated into the work and when I saw it finished it reminded me of a bird. Maybe it was always in my unconscious. :)
It is made with white Zinc pigment to prime the canvas and I used black gesso and acrylic on cotton duck canvas. The format is square which is an option I like more and more.
