Artist statement
Azrul Azrai Mohyi, born in 1990 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is a visual artist based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 2013, Azrul graduated with a degree in fine arts (major painting & minor psychology) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in Malaysia. Subsequently, he has frequently exhibited in art museums and galleries across Thailand, Penang, and Kuala Lumpur.
His work convey the contemporary issues through pop styles, figurative and charcoal drawings.
Azrul’s works have been featured in “Hysterically Optimistic” group exhibition (Suma Orientalis Fine Art, Selangor, 2021) and “The Holiday Show” group exhibition (Suma Orientalis Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur, 2023), EAA Show 2014 (White Box Publika, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), Thailand Malaysia International Print Exhibition (Gallery Prince of Songkla University Thailand), Open Show (Gallery Shah Alam, Malaysia), Platform 2 Exhibition (Chandan Gallery, Publika, Kuala Lumpur), Locals Only 2016 (Taksu KL), Young & New VI 2016 (HOM Art Trans KL), Malaysia Art Expo 2018 & 2019 and HOM Open 2021.
