About the art
Artist statement
This large abstract ceramic sculpture, titled “The Dancer,” is crafted from brown and speckled stoneware clay. The earthy tones and textured surface provide a rich, organic foundation for the piece. Gestures in black slip are applied to the surface, creating dynamic patterns that enhance the visual and emotional movement of the sculpture.
The elongated, curvaceous form narrows towards the top, reminiscent of the poise and elegance of a flamenco dancer in motion. The contrast between the natural clay tones and bold black accents makes “The Dancer” striking and emotionally resonant, evoking the grace and passion of the dance. It invites viewers to feel the rhythm and energy embodied in the form.
Due to its narrow base, I recommend that this sculpture be permanently mounted for security.
