About the art
Artist statement
From the series “Underland”, Absolem, the caterpillar inspired by the tale “Alice in Wonderland”, is presented as an oracle—a being possessing deep knowledge but paradoxically seems unaware of the very nature of its wisdom.
The existential question "How do I know that I am me?" resonates through the lens of Absolem, who becomes a beacon in the darkness, illuminating the path to understanding one's own identity. This piece captures the duality of this experience, where physical transformation becomes a mirror of internal evolution, challenging the observer to identify the invisible connections we weave in our lives: Who am I in this moment? How do my choices influence my identity?
By depicting Absolem wrapped in a cocoon, immersed in his transformation process while entwined in the hose of his hookah, the divergence between inner search and external restraints often experienced in our existence is portrayed. At the same time, it raises questions about things we do not recognize as ours based on what we do and who we are in the present moment.
