Artist statement
Gouache and collage on paper, measuring 24 x 17 cm | 9 ²⁹/₆₄ x 6 ¹¹/₁₆ in, framed, measuring 30,5 x 23,5 x 2 cm | 12 ¹/₆₄ x 9 ¹/₄ x ²⁵/₃₂ in.
Drawing in gouache and collage, made on a sheet of paper with lithographs from the 19th century (on the back), found in antique shops in Brussels, Belgium. The paper original back face (with original lithography and text) is visible through a clear window made on framing.
Bela Silva's work, so organic and colourful, expresses itself a lot in all imaginable shades of green and blue. Leaves, foliage, fantastic animals, sea creatures, and birds make up the formal imagery of his work, here and there punctuated with geographical references to travel (another of his passions). Everything always framed in an amazing explosion of life.
