Blue is one of the basic colors and is often used by artists as a stylistic device. Some artists, like Yves Klein, even used blue almost exclusively. The color is also one of the cold colors. But since it is also the color of the sky and the sea, it is used again and again, if you want to express distaBnce, distance or longing. One example is the painting "Starry Night" by Vincent van Gogh. It shows the view from the room of the hospital in which van Gogh was instructed and especially the deep blue tones express the yearning that he felt especially: longing for a normal life, yearning for another life. Van Gogh himself had emphasized in a letter to his brother how satisfied he was with the choice of blue.
