Windy Wild Grass Triptych

Set of three unique original monoprints. This is hand printed on acid- free 100% cotton watercolor paper which is thick and has a slight texture.

Although these three hand-made prints look like etchings or block prints, they are cyanotypes, a type of 19th century cameraless photography also known as blueprints or sun prints.

The species of local wild grass I used is called California Bullrush. It is native to Northern California and grows in local wetlands and gardens like mine.

Every one of my botanical cyanotypes is an entirely unique monotype as the cut plants are laid by hand in that one exact composition only once. Even if I reuse the same plants once or twice before they wilt, no two of my botanical cyanotypes are ever identical. There is no carved block nor etched copper plate; there is no ink or printing press.

Each of these THREE prints measures 16 inches tall by 12 inches wide. They could either be matted and framed in 24 x 18“ frames or in 20 x16” frames. With a gap between them on the wall, they would span around 50 inches (125 cm) horizontally..
