Artist statement
I find abstract art very fascinating because during the process the art was incomprehensible to me and I couldn’t quite see what is going on. Underneath this piece of incomprehensible abstract, there appeared to be many figurative, such as a fox face, woman or ganesha. It is very unconventional for Chinese ink to demonstrate gestural abstraction in this manner.
I wholeheartedly adopted the brush and ink technique deeply rooted in Chinese tradition combined with pouring and rolling ink like the Abstract Expressionism movement, and the freedom of my mind to create pure spontaneity at its core. The flow of matter and “happy accidents” are great sources of inspiration.
I like to dilute acrylic paint to create soft watercolor effects, using Chinese ink and layering multiple transparent hues on either canvas or rice paper for a greater variety of textures and surprises.
