Artist statement
It is a unique and original piece of art featuring a surrealist view of Pineapple hanging above the fish bowl. Pineapple is a prosperous symbol in Chinese belief. This iconic fruit has gone on to capture the imaginations, and taste buds of all who have come into contact with this fruit. The sweet, yellow, spiky look of the pineapple is timeless and sentimental in Asia, particularly Chinese.
There is a lot of overlapping in the image to create the fish bowl. The goldfish can be found in many kinds of Chinese artwork, including ink ceramics and more. In traditional Chinese painting, an image of a cat holds special significance. The combination of pineapples, goldfish, and a cat can be used to bestow blessing. My sentimental homage offers a surrealist vision that is fun and unexpected
