Artist statement
A series of works that beginning from vases seek a kind of Chinese aesthetic named 中庸(moderation) and 雅(elegant).
The works in this series are about the impact between my cultural background and American culture when I first arrived in the United States.I try to express the Eastern aesthetic appeal in the language of Western art. In this series of works, although the shape of flowers always appears in every piece of work, it has actually been abstracted into a regular base with organic graphics.
I chose vases as the direction because I admire Meranti very much and I feel the charm of oriental aesthetics in his works.
