About the art
Artist statement
The skull is one of the signature motifs in Damien Hirst’s work. In this special edition the artist has collaborated with band The Hours to produce a limited number of branded, unique art works. "The Hours" Spin Skull sculpture has a form of a synthetic skull, made of mixed media. The skull is painted in a marbled spin pattern using a variety of household gloss paint colors; the eye sockets are inlaid with watch dials. The skull and watch dials are symbolic of impermanence of life and could be considered as Hirst's invitation to the existential meditation. "The Hours" Spin Skull has an open space at the top for the Hours' album, "See the Light".
“ The movement sort of implies life. „
