Block 423 Tampines St 41 is one of about 10 HDB public housing blocks in Tampines St 41 decked out in a retro TV test pattern paintwork. Apparently, it was initiated by the Member of Parliament for the precinct - Mr Baey Yam Keng and the town council. They wanted to suggest a more interesting scheme for their neighbourhood’s repainting exercise and suggested this scheme which was extremely well received by the residents. In terms of giving character to the neighbourhood it has certainly worked as there aren’t any other places in Singapore with such a scheme. Because I roam the island searching for interesting public housing blocks to photograph, this has been on my radar and I have revisited the neighbourhood a few times to make more images.
