About the art
Artist statement
"Whoever seizes the greatest unreality will shape the greatest reality."
Hugo von Hofmannsthal
Wandering across the stylistic borders of expressionism and figuration, my works are frequently borrowing forgotten, abandoned architectural spaces belonging to the presumably egalitarian moment of "popular modernism" where grand projects and utopias were still seen as vectors of the future. Now, most of those utopian dreams lay barren, exposed to corrosion and oblivion. The grand narratives are gone for good, the Anthropocene is well over the horizon. But what would be our exit, if we are trapped between a bleeding past and an increasingly gloomy future? How we are supposed to decipher the backmasking if there is no content? In works like "Aftermath" and "Dereliction", by looking back and gathering the ruins of the past I'm daring to embrace their monumental unreality.
