Artist statement
With its thick and voluptuous brushstrokes, "Inner Landscape" has shaped-up to be one of Virtosu's most vivid and spontaneous creations. Made as an abstract landscape painting of a smaller size, this artwork represents a continuation of the Chlorophyll series - an invitation to step into a wide and vivid universe of imagined landscapes.
Dominic Virtosu has painted this work using his non-dominant hand - the left hand - in a process aimed at liberating the gesture and accessing the subconscious mind. Are the seemingly chaotic whirlwind of leaves, branches and twigs the artists' thoughts and emotions? Is the viewer immersed into the inner turmoil of a soul searching for peace?
A reasonably sized painting with beautiful colors, "Inner Landscape" is fit for a contemporary home with plenty of light. The 4.5cm profile stretcher frame makes this artwork an object of design that makes a statement of presence.
