Artist statement
I approach mark-making as tracing fragmented architectural and natural landscapes to suggests spaces in flux - still being shaped, built or erased. The boldness of the compressed charcoal as their primary medium is contradicted by its ephemeral quality that emphasizes the sense of impermanence and immediacy. While focusing strongly on the visual presence of the work and the physicality of the mark, I am simultaneously interested in impalpable.
This is a compressed charcoal drawing on wood panel. Charcoal has been fully fixed and varnished, therefore the surface is protected from smearing.
