Artist statement
The minimal dreamy landscapes in the Meditations series serve as an opportunity for peaceful quiet contemplation. Inspired by my daily mindfulness meditation practice, I wanted to depict those mental states in visual compositions. Though the intention of the practice is mindful observation of what is and stillness or the mind, it is often very difficult to achieve. We habitually engage in continuous internal dialogue and our minds create labyrinths where we get lost in the distractions for a time. The noise in my head often evokes a feeling of being surrounded by the beating of wings, revealed, and floating in the abyss of space — where everything exists yet is not realized, not seen. The images in this series are best presented as diptychs but can also stand alone.
