About the art
Artist statement
Conceived as "textile pottery," the AT vessels bring us closer to the ceramic imagery both through their shapes and their process, reminiscent of the technique of coil building. Their ambiguous appearance plays with our perception of the material world. With what we see and what they are: machine-sewn cotton rope.
I use a limited amount of resources to achieve a diversity of shapes and nuances. Only a domestic sewing machine, pushed to its limits, and my hands, performing gentle movements. Only a single and tight stitch that repeatedly joins the cotton rope. And thousands of meters of overlapping the thread, creating a solid crust of multiple textures that provides consistency, rigidity, and weight to the vessels. A slow process in which the shapes emerge as I sew.
Each vessel is a unique piece, not reproducible.
