About the art
Artist statement
Rotterdam_212 is an acrylics on canvas painting depicting a deconstructed modern city, Rotterdam. Inspired by its modern architecture and omnipresent bridges, the painting plays with geometric shapes that upon closer inspection can be combined to create forms resembling bridges and buildings, in part as a reflection in water. The painting contrasts fluid and almost harsh geometric shapes to create tension, albeit through a balanced composition. The painting is in the same style as a previous painting, Rotterdam_211.
