About the art
Artist statement
This artwork is inspired by the flower animals, aka flowers of the sea and represents the relation between organisms and human impact on them. The bleaching phenomenon of the corals occurs due to warmer temperatures and means they are under stress and subject to mortality. Corals can survive several bleaching events and as in this artwork, the light creates dynamic shadows during the day, the lower the light, more extended and dramatic they can be. As a representation and a reminder of the beautiful creatures that are struggling to survive to climate change. This artwork is handmade with pure portuguese wool yarn with anti moss treatment. The frame is made with portuguese expanded black cork.
