Artist statement
JANELA DISCRETA Tapestry represents a window for a beautiful portuguese landscape. Pure portuguese wool handmade tapestry, using tufting and carving techniques, the bass-relief is carved with scissors. The frame is made from portuguese expanded black cork, made only with the cork branches (falca) for the manufacture of cork granules, and with a 100% natural steaming process, without use of additives. The chocolate color is a result of this process. Production of cork is the biggest industry in Portugal, and this material is part of portuguese rural landscape. So for this reason, this frame represents it self tradition and adds texture and contrast to this artwork.
