About the art
Artist statement
When renewing the sidewalk of a street in my neighborhood, I came across this bluestone piece among the residual material, with a slight bend in it. That inspired me to this shape. It is a solid mass, but due to the convex bottom it barely touches the surface below.
The copper shape is a clearly visible visual element, but is also necessary to keep the stone in balance.
This sculpture is made out of two parts. The top part is loose. The parts are handcarved into structure with the pointed chisel. Only the edge of the top is smoothly finished. On the inside you can still see the rough stone.
