About the art
Artist statement
For this sculpture I was inspired by old temple complexes, with see throughs, stairs, corners and crumbling walls. Think of buildings of the ancient Egyptians or, for example, the Incas.
The material I used is also related to an old monument. The travertine comes from the plinth of the monument to Joannes Zwijssen (1794-1877), a Roman Catholic clergyman and later bishop, made by sculptor Toon Dupuis (1933). It once stood in Tilburg. The Latin title of this sculpture e is a reference to the language of the Catholic Church.
This sculpture is also suitable for the outdoor space, although the inlaid copper will change due to the influence of the weather.
