Artist statement
"Everything must change" is from the series Spatial history, the title taken from Bernard Ighner's beautiful song, first released by Quincy Jones in1974, poignant for the Artist because this was the year her father died.
In the series Spatial history, Parr revisits places and journeys that are often defined by emotion. Tensions between past and present, joy and saudade, presence and absence continue to inhabit her visual language, expressed through a set of coded references and metaphors which she explores through the balance of spontaneity and considered control during the painting process.
Signed and dated on the side of the canvas the painting is ready to hang. The canvas is deep edged 4.4cm which shows small signs of the working process to the canvas sides.
