About the art
Artist statement
Painting Making Headway is from the Artist's "River meets sea" series. Inspired by her childhood memories of fishing for mackerel with her father on the estuary at Exmouth ( UK ), whilst presently considering where "exactly" the river meets the sea.
Parr would like to convey a mood, an atmosphere, a saudade ( a love that remains ) for the viewer, as she continues to explore the balance of spontaneity and controlled intention during the painting process, using oil, charcoal and acrylic, with pallet knife, brush cloth and sponge, building up layers and washing away in a process that becomes as important to remove as to add.
The painting is signed and dated on the canvas side and ready to hang, and also displays small signs of the painting process on the sides of the canvas.
