About the art
Artist statement
One of several works stemming from the series "Public, Private, Secret,” which relates to the three separate areas, sometimes overlapping, which we inhabit in our daily lives.
This series was started at the end of 2019 and well before the Covid 19 Pandemic started, but whilst working on this body of work Parr found her practice, not surprisingly, affected by this strange and difficult time.
As she continued on with this series, it become a perfect escapism, a freedom to experiment and explore the narrative of our shifted reality.
Submersion meaning not only a complete covering of water, but geographically a shifting of sand under the water during a storm; being returned to where it came from at some later point, but moved and changed. This seemed to the Artist a wonderful metaphor for the World's turbulent Pandemic.
The painting is signed on the canvas side and ready to hang, and shows some signs of the painting process to the canvas sides.
