Story:
During my time working in Hong Kong just before the British handover to China, I had the opportunity to travel to Taiwan. Over a weekend, we ventured to Taroko National Park near Hualien, a place I hadn’t anticipated would be so stunning. This route was originally built by Chiang Kai-shek’s troops, who later retired in a nearby village.
The lush vegetation and landscapes reminded me of my homeland in the Yungas region, where my passion for capturing water scenes began. The notable difference was the presence of numerous temples and, in certain areas, large, inverted swastikas. This symbol intrigued me, given its historical context from 1945. The climate was also warmer than what I was accustomed to.
Due to the impromptu nature of my trip, I had left my hiking boots back in Hong Kong, which led to discomfort as I hiked in inadequate shoes. Eventually, I opted to walk barefoot. The last image presented here is from a wooden suspension bridge, where I patiently waited for the right moment, ensuring no one stepped onto the bridge and caused vibrations.
