About the art
Artist statement
There is a continuous question of how can people be peaceful. I made this series based on religious, psychological, and philosophical ideology. The Unknown series focuses on two antithetical emotions: the feeling of loss and satisfaction. Feeling of loss is easily defined as negative emotion and feeling of satisfaction is defined as positive emotion. However, they can't be defined as neither good nor bad. Fundamentally, "GOOD and BAD" is subjective, not objective. Anything can seem good but it can turn bad at some point in life. The opposite works the same. In this series, the lines symbolize all the "GOOD and BAD" happenings in life. The lots of layers on top of the lines show the typical emotion that we easily define as good and bad. The feeling of loss is revealed when the line is hidden, and the satisfaction is depicted when the line is shown as an image.
I want to portray the ideology that nothing is defined as good and bad, but just accept them as the way it is. If people can accept things the way they are, they feel less stressed and feel more peaceful. People are most afraid of "Anxiety". And I believe peace is the opposite emotion of anxiety. Therefore, I hope this series will take people's anxiety away. I also wish people would feel peaceful and have some time to remind them of the ideology rather than having extreme emotional changes and feeling anxious.
