About the Willow Tree Series
Hayoung Kim's paintings incorporate her own experiences in real life. Now she has given birth and encountered a whole new phase of life. While experiencing motherhood through parenting, Kim was not only inspired by her own emotional changes but also her child's innocent perspective. Children's picture books inspire her as well to unfold stories that are distinct to the series. She tries to capture the feelings of love and imagery from the world of children.
The Willow Tree series is inspired by the moment when willow tree branches stroked her child. The tenderness reminded her of a maternal behavior for comfort and protection of the child. In the artistic practice, she found herself healed and improved too.
