Artist statement
This work is my creative representation of the Japanese art of 'Kintsugi'. 'Kin' means golden and 'tsugi' means repair. This traditional Japanese art uses a precious metal – liquid gold, liquid silver or lacquer dusted with powdered gold – to bring together the pieces of a broken pottery item, in turn enhancing the breaks. It urges us to look at the beauty in the imperfections rather than focussing on the fact that something is destroyed. I have always endeavoured to use this mantra in my life as well.
