Artist statement
It's a modern interpretation of traditional Japanese Kacho-ga. It has a cartoon-like deformed shape, vivid colors and graphical shapes. The background uses 22 K gold and silver foil.
The motifs are morning glory and thunder. Morning glory is a flower representing summer in Japan. Morning glory is often depicted in Japanese classical art. It's a picture of the moment when the thunder strikes the background of the morning glory when it rings with summer rain.
I was influenced by classical Japanese Kacho-ga. The classics are updated in a modern way to pursue the novelty created by the fusion of the classics with the modern, Western and Eastern.
