About the art
Artist statement
This ceramic sculpture captures the fluidity and movement of the ocean through its undulating tentacle-like forms, meticulously built using wave coils. Inspired by the rhythmic motion of waves, each coil flows seamlessly into the next, evoking the endless push and pull of the sea. The sculpture’s surface is glazed in deep blues, mirroring the vast ocean depths, while earthy browns ground the piece, reminiscent of driftwood and sand. The tentacle forms twist and curl as if reaching out from the water, embodying both the power and grace of marine life. Textured details mimic the organic roughness of the ocean floor, while glossy finishes on select areas enhance the sense of wetness, as if the sculpture has just emerged from the tides.
