El rayo verde / The Green Ray (2021)
40 x 30 cm. edition of 10 + 1 AP on Hahnemühle paper.
Signed on the back with Certificate.
It has taken more than 50 years to see this effect of the sun and to be able to photograph it. The colour of the image is exactly as it was captured. The light effect is real. It has not been manipulated.
Green flash, or green ray, is an atmospheric optical phenomenon that occurs shortly after sunset and shortly before moonrise, in which a green dot can be seen, usually for a second or two, above the position of the sun. It can also be seen as a green ray coming from the point where the sun has set.
The concept of the green flash or ray was popularised by Jules Verne's 1882 novel The Green Ray, in which its colour is described as "[...] a green which no artist could ever obtain on his palette, a green of which neither the varied tints of vegetation nor the hues of the cleanest sea could ever produce an equal If there is a green in Paradise, it cannot be except of this hue, which is most surely the true green of Hope!"
