About the art
Artist statement
I have always been interested in taking an idea or a set of limitations and allowing it to evolve over time. In 2015 I began stitching with raffia onto 5”x7” pieces of Asian paper. Over time the pieces got larger, included ink and gouache, and were mounted onto heavier paper or panels, often combining into diptychs or larger groups. In this series, “Darkness and Light,” I use simple materials to explore a deep nonverbal place of spaciousness, calm, and joy while at the same time experiencing the deeply disturbing challenges of our time.
