Ambient zone of aquamarine blue, this photograph is an abstract seascape of layers with images of the bright sunlight on the Pacific ocean mingling with a field of wild calla-lilies.
The contrasting black envelopes the composition and showcases the entire 4 x 5” film negative. Scanned in full, the photographic negative shows the multiple exposures and light leak used to create the composition in camera. Engelund’s creative process juxtaposes material and the spirit, a new existential, a new way of seeing. Photographed on the coast of California, Fields of the Sun 26 presents elements of the landscape, the wild calla-lilies and the ocean, that evoke the mysterious feeling of the mythic coastline.
