About the art
Artist statement
This oil painting depicts a lovely square in Aigues Mortes, a medieval town in the south of France. Shaded by date palm trees this square is bordered by the post office on the left and the Grey Penitents chapel, dating back from the early 17th century, at the back . It was realised in the artist's studio with extrafine paints with the help of watercolor studies he had made in-situ.The technique used, successive layers of transparent paint, gives depth and luminosity. Owing to its size this painting doesn't really require framing. It is ready to hang and the sides are painted black for presentation. This work is featured p.104 in a a new book '' Peintres et Couleurs d'Occitanie'' published in october 2022.
