Artist statement
The cheongsam (“long dress” in Cantonese), also known as qipao/旗袍 in Mandarin, is a dress style typically worn by Chinese women. It has become a marker of Chinese identity. This is especially the case for older Chinese women, who regard the cheongsam as a dignified and elegant formal dress that reflects their ethnic roots.
