About the art
Artist statement
Last piece of the "Amalgam" series. It consists in 10 pine needle ornaments arranged over a wood canvas.
In the Amalgama series, white is used exclusively without varnish, seeking to symbolize transformation, imperfection, and the connection to everyday surroundings. The rough textures and exposed paint drips represent resilience and adaptation, while white serves as a meditative space, inviting the viewer to reflect on the ephemeral nature of beauty.
This artwork shows a connection between cultural tradition and personal exploration. With the idea born during Guatemala's festive seasons, where materials like sawdust and pine needles symbolize unity and shared rituals, Juan Pablo transforms everyday materials into artistic manifestations that explore the invisible aspects of our lives.
The textures and reliefs become metaphors for life itself, much like their layers—visible yet rarely perceived in depth. What makes this piece special is not only its mixed technique or the fusion of organic and urban materials but also the authenticity of its origin. It is a visual statement that blends experimentation, culture, and introspection.
