Artist statement
Part of a series of Goddess Flowers.
Inspired by the idea of a magical, mythological garden with flowers for each goddess.
Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom and war. Myth states that she was born of the ocean rising from the water with a sword held aloft in her hands.
This is a hand-made sculpture encrusted with different varieties of glass and a smattering of 24-carat gold. The beaded stamens can be twisted around a finger or pen as desired.
Athena is published in my book ‘Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic’ (Schiffer Publishing USA). It will be sent in a custom plywood box with a certificate of authenticity and a certificate of registration on the NRAA (National Registry of Australian Artists).
