Artist statement
A power struggle between paint and canvas sees this work attempt to break free and live independently from its support. It explores my interest in presenting a different view of painting, one where it is capable of movement. But at what point that movement could lead to its destruction. Barely held together by limited weft thread it lives in frozen suspension not quite achieving separation.
Breakout was a finalist in the Wyndham Art Prize 2019 in Melbourne, Australia
The work is secured to canvas. It is fitted with D rings and wire for immediate hanging.On the front you will find my initials. On the back is my signature, title and year.
This painting is registered with the NRAA (National Registry for Australian Artists). Details of this registration are provided as well as a Certificate of Authenticity.
THE INTERWEAVE COLLECTION
Highly unique paintings that emulate the stunning drape of textiles. This series combines my love of craft with my passion for painting. Warp and weft threads are cut from a variety of paintings that exist only to be deconstructed and then reconstructed as a new whole. Finished works are made entirely from paint with no other material present.
