Artist statement
What if paint could lead an alternative life, one where it is more than a wet substance clinging to a support. Despite its extensive history in art and its fundamental importance in painting, it is rarely considered capable of independence.
My practice exploits the inherent flexibility in dried paint to create threads. When woven together the warp and weft interchange provides reinforcement and allows the paint to transform into an unsupported object.
The ancient craft of weaving enables the focus to shift to the materiality of paint and process allowing the painting to enter a world of elegant dimensionality.
The work is secured to canvas. It is fitted with D rings and wire for immediate hanging. On the front, you will find my initials. On the back is my signature, title and, year.
This painting is registered with the NRAA (National Registry for Australian Artists). Details of this registration are provided as well as a Certificate of Authenticity.
It is framed in chunky pale timber.
