About the art
Artist statement
Last summer, Karin enjoyed a holiday along the coast in Bibbona, Tuscany. Each evening, as the sun set, she walked back from the beach through the dunes to her tent. The low sunlight beautifully illuminated the distinctive pine trees with their unique aerial roots. Recently, she created her first artwork using chrome paint and wanted to apply the same technique to the photographs she took in Bibbona. These images possess a raw quality that intriguingly contrasts with the romantic magnolias she had created, making them particularly captivating. She is pretty pleased with the outcome. The artwork is challenging to capture in photographs, as the chrome effect does not fully reveal itself; however, it exhibits a constant sense of movement when viewed from different angles. She created the piece on a 140 x 140 cm canvas with an aluminium 3D frame, using mixed media that includes print, gel medium, acrylic, oil paint, oil bars, and a hint of light copper chrome paint.
