About the art
Artist statement
Glass-fusion, a process that symbolizes the different facets of the existence of human life, where every individual facet is a variable and, altogether, represent an analytical description of a whole.
Deep curiosity and comprehension of shapes are awakened through visual, mental, and creative stimulation, which encourages a Being to contemplate itself and its environment with all its peculiarities, hand in hand with the appreciation of diversity of colors and structures.
We are multidimensional beings; therefore, the perception of spaces generates for us conscience states that take us to the evolutionary transformation, broadening our mind and our way to perceive reality, seeking to reproduce a mystic atmosphere that represents light.
The molten glass technique using recycled material, as displayed in this exhibition, is Karin Weller’s favorite. This consists of melting scraps of glass, fusing them painstakingly, designing, selecting colors, cleaning, and maintaining the same coefficient of expansion to cautiously assemble every single piece. Glass is unpredictable and there are so many details to consider, but between the mixing technique and art, every regenerated piece emerges, almost out of nowhere… like the phoenix!
Karin Weller has been fascinated by glass and lighting, embracing all the possibilities you can explore with this unpredictable material. After 30 years working as a stained glass artist in Guatemala, she has collected many scraps of glass from different essays and prototypes. She decided to explore more about the molten glass technique to start a new dialogue between color and unexpected shapes, using the scraps of glass as a repurposed material, to give birth to a new exploration of inventive and creative elucidation to create art. Inflections 5 represent the variations of the human perspective, anomalies of the existence, between the starting point and the destiny.
