“Whenever I put together a cluster of palm cuts, I feel like I’m completing a picture puzzle: all pieces are scattered but connected. I pick up and glue together a variety of tones to create an image of what’s inside my head—gathered and painted like fragments of reality and illusion combined.
I like to remind myself and the viewer of the in-between spaces of our lives, not just the ebbs and flows of tides, but also to ponder and acknowledge the real reasons to keep living. Through these works, I aim to portray images that validate moments when everything around us feels too much—a sensory memory that recalls for me the act of coping, celebrating, and sometimes, descent.”
