Artist statement
diptych, 60 x 15 x 4 inches each. Brushed aluminum inset with oil on canvas
This piece plays on notions of mathematics and minimalism. The entire piece slopes from top to bottom 4-1", while the line of textural painting splits the pieces down the middle in perspective. Painting textures are inspired by cracks in the earth observed on hikes in the desert. The panels take on a very human presence as the hover off the wall, with the painting potentially a metaphor for the heart or soul.
